About

Volunteer for a Great Barrier Reef: Snorkeling & Conservation project is a research project based on marine volunteer help. It researches and evaluates the health state of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Volunteers are actually snorkelling, investigating and collecting data under the water. There are three main goals of this marine conservation and snorkeling volunteer project:
1) to increase the knowledge, awareness and to intensify marine research on the Great Barrier Reef,
2) to educate more people: local communities and conservation volunteers from abroad, to bring them together and volunteer for the benefit of this Earth’s biggest wonder – the Great Barrier Reef,

3) to create more volunteer opportunities for the community to engage with the Great Barrier Reef and to raise the awareness of its importance locally and globally.

Volunteers in Australian marine project receive training in coral reef ecology, marine life identification, and coral reef survey techniques. Current research is focused on the reef health. This marine conservation volunteer project has its own developed monitoring technique as well as data collecting methodology following the Australian government’s marine park authorities. Marine volunteers will also contribute to programs such as ‘watching the corals’. Education volunteer projects include the scheduled talks about raising the awareness of the reef, like volunteers will actively visit the Australian (primary and high) schools and engage with the students. Additionally marine fauna volunteers will contribute to the development and execution of the online marine educational program. Community volunteer engagement programs include specialist talks on many different aspects of the Great Barrier Reef. The future plan is to run volunteer marine events about the Great Barrier Reef which in return would result in higher awareness about this UNESCO natural heritage the Great Barrier Reef and its marine life.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-compass” add_icon=”true” title=”Orientation” tab_id=”orientationb623-3d7176b7-04840dae-52cba7f4-70904a6d-d607″][vc_column_text]

Orientation

Each volunteer will receive orientation in the research office for the Great Barrier Reef: Snorkeling & Conservation project. This once in a lifetime experience of volunteer snorkeling program in Australia brings one to the satisfaction knowing that volunteers collectively contribute to the protection of this remarkable marine life variety and beauty. It helps and contributes to the knowledge base about the Great Barrier Reef, especially now in the times when we are more and more aware of the climate changes and therefore gaining a greater understanding of coral reefs will potentially result in being able to successfully protect them and their marine life in Australia and with this globally.

Snorkeling volunteers provide this Australian volunteer project with very valuable resources. The main ones are – being very helping hands and also fiscally enabling the run of such a conservation project. By volunteering for marine life in Great Barrier Reef you increase the ability to work more effectively on the topic, without being burdened with the piles of reports and staying independent for this crucial contribution in Great Barrier Reef protection.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-user-plus” add_icon=”true” title=”Contribution” tab_id=”contributionb623-3d7176b7-04840dae-52cba7f4-70904a6d-d607″][vc_column_text]

Travel focus

Australia is considered a very safe country and the volunteer for a Great Barrier Reef: Snorkeling & Conservation region is no different. However, it is recommended to look after your personal belongings and be aware of your surroundings.

Australia is advertised as having many dangerous animals, although this is true they are not out to do harm to people. Despite saying that, at particular times of years one must be careful of crocodiles and jellyfish when swimming on the beaches (summer period).

There is no need for vaccines, but being the tropics, there are some strange diseases, for example, dengue (it is similar to malaria). It is advised to have medical and travel insurance.

Uncover the Queensland!

There are almost endless things you can do around the Great Barrier Reef.

You can visit beautiful beaches and enjoy the wast Oceans wave melody. Besides already volunteering in snorkeling you can go to more adventurous diving too. You can do driving journeys, discover indigenous culture, visit some islands or National Parks, do some (water) sports, observe amazing wildlife, visit world heritage sites. Or you can engage even more with the ocean, after of before snorkeling volunteering, with sailing or going on a sustainable whale watching trip.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_gmaps link=”#E-8_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” title=”Australia Queensland”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1512544405677{margin-top: 50px !important;margin-bottom: 50px !important;background-color: #157a7c !important;border-radius: 10px !important;}” el_id=”project-cta-blue-color-white”][vc_column][vc_column_text]
